KCSPOG Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Kenya

KCSPOG is pleased to announce that we are now the Publish What You Pay Kenya Coalition. We are now part of an illustrious family of transparency fighters, united in their quest for an open and accountable extractive sector through campaigns, joint advocacy, information sharing and solidarity.

Following a lengthy application process, in November 2018, the PWYP Africa Steering Committee approved KCSPOG’s application. KCSPOG/PWPY Kenya is part of the PWYP’s East and Southern Africa (ESA) Region.

Our membership reflects the nature of the extractive sector where companies work beyond singular jurisdictions, and our ability to partner with activists in different jurisdictions will support our work to hold companies accountable globally for their actions. This new status offers the platform members an opportunity to continue advocating for transparency and accountability from the government and companies in the extractives sector.

Further, members and other Kenyan civil society organisations now have a regional platform where they shall share their experiences and learn from other civil society organisation in Africa and the rest of the world working on similar issues.

Strategic Plan

The current strategy for PWYP Vision 20/20 is composed of four pillars:

Publish Why You Pay and How You Extract: this pillar covers the steps of the value chain before company payments are made, that determine whether citizens are getting a fair deal for their resources;

Publish What You Pay: this pillar focuses on the financial transparency of payments made by extractive companies to governments;

Publish What You Earn and How You Spend: this pillar covers civil society’s role in ensuring that natural resource revenues reach the state and are spent responsibly;

Practise What You Preach: this pillar covers the governance principles and standards, membership standards and financial reporting mechanisms that ensure the integrity and reliability of the coalition

Our membership provides us with an opportunity to leverage the strategic pillars to improve our work nationally in Kenya as well as enable cross-learning between other PWYP Coalitions around the globe.
